Is an unlimited data eSIM really unlimited?

Unlimited can describe total access while high-speed data, tethering or daily use still has limits. Here is what to inspect before buying.

Four limits hidden behind one word

Speed

High-speed allowance

Full speed may last for a daily quota, followed by slower service.

Sharing

Hotspot cap

Phone data can be unlimited while tethering is limited separately.

Policy

Fair use

Providers may manage unusually heavy use under a fair-use policy.

Time

Validity

Unlimited usage still ends when the purchased number of days expires.

Who should consider unlimited?

Unlimited plans can fit travelers who stream frequently, upload video, depend on mobile data all day or prefer predictable usage. A fixed 5–10 GB package may be better value for maps, messaging and occasional social media.

Our rule: if a provider does not explain throttling and hotspot terms clearly, we do not describe the plan as unrestricted.
